Pia Suttle's Tea Site

" Tea is a religion of the art of life!"
Tea is a work of art and needs a master hand to bring out its noblest qualities. There is no single recipe for making the perfect tea. Each preparation of the loose leaves has its individuality, its special relationship with water and heat, its memories, and its own method to telling a story. The true beauty must be always in it.
Tea has its different period and schools. It is divided into three main stages: the boiled tea, the whipped tea and the steeped tea. In our modern times we use the last method. In many ways, only the Japanese still use the whipped method in their tea-ceremony. It originated through Zen Buddhist Monks, who incorporated a lot of Taoist doctrines and came up with an elaborate ritual of tea. It is still done the same way today. It was an improvised drama whose plot was woven about tea, the flowers and the paintings. No colour to disturb the tone of the room, not a sound to change the rhythm of things, not a gesture to disturb on the harmony, not a word to break the unity of the surroundings. All movements are performed simply and naturally - such are the aims of the tea-ceremony.
